Weak form PDE of Comsol

Hi,
What does the weak expression mean in Comsol?
I am very curious about the theoretical background of the development of the software.
I would be appreciated if someone could send me some refence on what is he referring to by each term?

The Manual is for very beginners and meaningless to understand how he design the modeling process.
